Recently, on the occasion of the third "Belt and Road" International Cooperation Summit being held grandly in Beijing, Dr. Chen Junqiang, President of the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi Medical University, led an expert team to visit Laos and conducted exchange activities with the Lao Mittaphab Hospital. Mr. Sommark, Director of the Tongmeng (Lao) Pharmaceutical (TLPH), was invited to participate in this event.

The main theme of this exchange activity is "Eliminating Thalassemia", aiming to review and summarize the achievements made by the two hospitals in preventing and treating Thalassemia in the past four years, and to look forward to and discuss effective measures and a bright vision for deepening future cooperation.

The two hospitals signed a cooperation agreement on Thalassemia in 2019. The project aims to rely on the rich experience and professional technical strength of the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi Medical University in the prevention and treatment of Thalassemia, conduct lectures and free clinics on Thalassemia prevention and treatment at the Mittaphab Hospital, and provide high-level diagnosis and treatment services for local patients. In the past year, about 300 Thalassemia patients have benefited from it.

Both sides highly praised the achievements and bright prospects of the cooperation project, and agreed to extend the results of cooperation to more medical and health service fields, so as to benefit patients in China, Laos, and other countries along the "Belt and Road" with high-quality cooperation results.

The Tongmeng (Lao) Pharmaceutical (TLPH) is an important participant and witness to the international medical cooperation between China and Laos. For a long time, relying on the platform of international medical cooperation between China and Laos, Tongmeng (Lao) Pharmaceutical has actively participated in various major projects jointly carried out by the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi Medical University and the Mittaphab Hospital, including cross-border diagnosis and treatment of hepatitis C, malignant tumors, and important international conferences, which have been affirmed and praised by both hospitals! Encouraged by good cooperation results, ASEAN Pharmaceutical will continue to maintain cooperation with the two hospitals, continue to participate in the "Belt and Road" international medical cooperation, and bring quality products and services to the people of China, Laos, and other countries participated.

This visit and exchange activity is based on the framework of the "China-ASEAN Hospital Cooperation Alliance". The "China-ASEAN Hospital Cooperation Alliance" was established in September 2018, with the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi Medical University and the Lao Mittaphab Hospital becoming the Chinese and foreign chair units respectively. The two hospitals signed a cooperation agreement in 2019 in relation to thalassemia. Last year, some 300 people with thalassemia visited Mittaphab Hospital seeking advice and treatment. The establishment of this alliance aims to promote the construction of the "Health Silk Road", deepen cooperation between Chinese and ASEAN countries in medical institutions, and improve the level of medical cooperation between China and ASEAN countries.

Laos and China are good friends and comrades and Laos stands ready to work with China to jointly develop the Belt and Road Initiative, Dr Ketmany said.Director of the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi Medical University, Dr Jun-qiang Chen, said “We believe this will be a great step for medical evolution through this cooperation, and look forward to strengthening our partnership with treatment to fully leverage support for technical capabilities in Laos.”“Our Medical University will continue support to Mittaphab Hospital with the aim of providing high-quality medical treatment and health management extension services in related fields,” he added.
